Getting Started with WP Rocket and Cloudflare

WP Rocket works with Cloudflare straight out of the box – this means you have nothing else to do. Easy as that.

You can also use WP Rocket’s Cloudflare add-on but this is optional. The add-on simply provides a convenient way to configure some settings.

If you are using Cloudflare’s ‘Cache Everything’ feature, then configuring our Cloudflare add-on will be required to sync cache purging.
If you use the WP Rocket Cloudflare add-on, you no longer need the official Cloudflare plugin because WP Rocket already provides the same functionality of providing originating IP addresses.

⚠️ Cloudflare is not a CDN! Cloudflare is a DNS Proxy with CDN capability. The CDN part doesn’t need any configuration. So you shouldn’t add any CNAME in WP Rocket’s CDN tab. Doing so will break your site!

How to Get the Most from This Combo

You don’t have to make any changes in the Cloudflare settings when using WP Rocket.

If you want to be sure that there won’t be any issues, you can either turn on the Optimal Settings option on the WP Rocket Cloudflare Add-on, or you can proceed manually.

About the ‘Optimal Settings’ option

Activating this option is highly recommended and will make your life way easier. When ‘Optimal Settings’ is enabled, WP Rocket automatically selects a pre-defined set of options for Cloudflare in order to improve the performance of your site:

Sets Cloudflare’s caching level to Standard
Activates Cloudflare’s minification
Deactivates Rocket Loader (name unrelated to WP Rocket)
Sets Cloudflare’s browser cache to 1 year

Of course, as mentioned above, you can also do all of this manually if you prefer.
